Horizon Chimney installed a Ventinox stainless steel liner system, as the original terra cotta liner was deteriorating and falling apart. We also had a stainless steel chimney cap installed over all three flues. Derek was great. He was able to give me an estimate right away, and scheduled an appointment for the following week. He showed up on time, and was courteous, thorough, efficient, and did not leave any mess. All in all, it was a great experience and he came in hundreds of dollars lower than other estimates we received. We'd definitely use Horizon Chimney again and would recommend Derek to anyone.

We had a great experience. Derek and Paul were very nice and polite. They were kind enough to explain all of the various chimney terms that we did not understand. They worked quickly and were done in about an hour, cleaning the furnace flue and replacing the chimney cap in that time. I thought it was great that we didn't get charged for the inspection of the fireplace chimney. Much appreciated and unexpected. They also provided us with an explanation on how best to start a fireplace fire as well as some tips on seasoning the wood from some trees we had taken down in our yard recently. We look forward to having them back for our annual cleaning and any additional maintenance.

The chase cover project went very well. Derek came out to determine the problem and propose a solution. He gave us a quote, then returned as scheduled to do the work with no surprises nor additional costs. He is extremely knowledgeable and explained both the problem and solution in detail. An old galvanized chase cover was replaced with a new stainless cover. This solved the problem completely.

Derek installed a stainless steel liner in our chimney back in August 2008. We had been experiencing condensation in our clay lined chimney ever since we installed a high efficiency furnace in June 1999. We originally contacted Derek to diagnose our moisture problem. Derek provided us with a thoughtful and logical assessment of the cause of our moisture problem. He also provided us with a multi-step action plan to correct the moisture problem and repair the damages. The first step in his plan was to install the stainless steel liner. The estimate he provided was complete and easy to understand. The price was competitive, based on numerous estimates we received from other chimney maintenance services. Derek performed our installation in a very professional and efficient manner. He arrived at our house on schedule and completed the installation work without any delays or rework. He cleaned up the work site thoroughly after the job was completed.
Finally a year later we can confirm that the chimney liner solved our moisture problem and we plan to move to step two in Derek's recommendation in 2010.
Derek is knowledgeable about his craft and is able to articulate his recommendations in a clear manner that any homeowner should be able to understand. We are very satisfied with his work and would not hesitate to recommend him to anyone.

Derek and crew installed a wood stove for us last year and did some badly-needed renovations to our flue/chimney while they were at it. He was back today to clean the wood flue, and also mentioned that the oil flue needed help, and that there was a branch overhanging the chimney and that this was a fire hazard. After checking with me, he took care of these extras - things we wouldn't have recognized on our own! Top notch customer service -
Derek, the owner, has been cleaning my chimney for 15 years now and has always been courteous and thoughtful. He also installed a stove pipe for my coal / wood stove, and a cap on the chimney itself last year. All the work was top notch and professional. This is exactly the kind of "mom & pop" place that's becoming an increasing rarity as the years pass, that I prefer to those big guys. You can actually talk to the owner, and he'll explain exactly what he's doing, and why. Derek is also more interested in keeping long term customers as opposed to making a quick buck. If you're not careful, he'll chew your ear off too...but that's a good thing.
